Nature and development of supergene manganese deposits, Groote Eylandt
Location map of the mining areas on Groote Eylandt. pyrolusite, followed by formation of laterite, producing lithiophorite, todorokite, nsutite and psilomelane were later processes. Varentsov concludes that this mechanism of formation makes Groote Eylandt an analogue of the Moanda deposit in Gabon. The results suggest the following conclusions: (1) all primary manganese rocks and ores at the known deposits are hydrothermal- and diagenetic-sedimentary formations of marine environments; (2) manganese concentrations achieve the size of deposits at postsedimentary stages of the initial manganiferous sediment and Manganese deposits: Communication 1. Genetic models of manganese

The biogeochemical origin of the Groote Eylandt manganese
The cause of manganese precipitation at Groote Eylandt has been studied chiefly by Frakes and Bolton (1984), who described a mixing model whereby manganese, concen- trated in anoxic water, became mixed with ox- ygenated coastal waters.Abstract. Supergene manganese ores occur on Groote Eylandt in association with other secondary rocks. Overprinting primary sedimentation features (e.g. oolitic and pisolitic units), secondary Mn-oxides and gangue minerals nowadays belong to the most important components in the deposits.Nature and development of supergene manganese deposits, Groote Eylandt

REVIEW of RECENT MANGANESE EXPLORATION in the
manganese deposits mined on Groote Eylandt and recommendations for future work. The main findings of this review are: • Rosie Creek South (and the SW Reconnaissance area) prospect, the siteThe various theories relating to the origin of the Groote Eylandt manganese ores are discussed and a petrogenetic sequence involving biogeochemical precipitation of manganese oxide gels, sedimentary formation of pisolites and concretionary strata, diagenesis, and lateritization is outlined.Evidence for a biogeochemical origin of the Groote Eylandt manganese
